Rockland Police K-9  

K-9 Boyar was born on November 5, 2004.  Boyar came to the Rockland Police Department at 13 months old in December of 2005. Boyar came to us here in Rockland from a Kennel in the City of Bratislava, Slovakia.  Boyar's native language is Chzech which all his commands are still in today. Milk-Bone Dog Food Company bought K-9 Boyar for the Rockland Police Department at a hefty price of $5,200 which is part of their K-9 Heroes program where they buy several police K-9's across the country each year for police departments.  Boyar and Officer Somers then went through a 16 week K-9 Patrol School with the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office, in this school Boyar learned to track humans being a fleeing criminal or a missing person. Boyar also learned to conduct building searches, apprehend suspects, crowd/people control, and evidence recovery.  Boyar and Somers continue to train on a weekly basis with the BCSO.  Boyar and Somers hit the streets in Rockland as a team in April of 2006.  Since then Boyar has apprehended/found over 25 fleeing criminals with some of them being serious felons. K-9 Boyar rides each shift with Officer Somers and Narcotic K-9 Jessica, both dogs live at home with Somers.  Boyar is still only 3 years old!!! and has had much success already.  He is just hitting his grove and we continue to hope for big things from him for the rest of his career which should be for 6 to 7 years......   GOOD BOYAR!!!!
